Fahrenheit 451 Essay

The first time reading Fahrenheit 451 I was intrigued by what's going on in the story. At first, I thought the Theme was about technology changing people's perspective on themselves or others. They forget their morals of what's actually right or wrong. But reading further into the story made me rethink of the theme actually is. I think the theme of the story is the Ministry censoring out knowledge of the past by banding books. That way they can create rules to control people's thoughts on what's right or wrong. What this book offers readers in 2020 is some kind of understanding of how taking away someone's knowledge can cause them to doings what others say without giving a second thought to why they're doing it. In the story, Montag's firemen never give thought to why they burned books or the society he's living in because of the ministry rules until one encounter with a girl named Clarisse changed him forever. On their first encounter, Montag had mixed thoughts towards Clarisse's characteristics. Not only that but the topics she talked about from the past were hard to believe that Montag laughed because he never heard such things. What really impacted Montag the most from the encounter was a question she asked him. she asked him if he's happy with his life? This question stayed in his head when he finally got what he discovered he is not happy with his life. The fact that Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953 is shocking to see how familiar it is to our lives. Ray Bradbury's imagination of functional technology came out actually true. The Sea Shells being earbuds and Parlor walls are what be predicted being. The elements that help me support my theme are Tone/Mood, Symbolism, and direct characterizing. Symbolism help describes the difference between montage and Clarisse. Montag's home being dark symbolized his life being colorless or sad while Clarisse's lit home symbolized being happy. After seeing his being treated like some kind of machine Montag started repeat what he saw in a confused tone. Montags thoughts of society not making any sense is break though of seeing the truth.
